Once the debris had settled after the battle of Hong Kong, the aftermath was massive.

For more than three and a half years after, the Canadian soldiers were imprisoned and taken hostage in Hong Kong and Japan, and were living in horrible conditions while going through torture and starvation.

In the horrible conditions, they would also work 12 hour days in mines or on the docks in the cold, while only eating 800 calories a day or less. 290 Canadians were killed, and 493 were wounded, and it did not end with surrender. Of all the 1,975 Canadian soldiers that left from Vancouver in the October of 1941, more than 550 of them never returned home.

This battle was a valiant display of hard work and sacrifice that help bring peace and freedom to the citizens of Asia and the Pacific.
